How this tool helps
Use a cost comparison as a starting point, not a moving quote
Remote pay does not stretch the same way in every country. This comparison lines up a monthly basket for one person — rent, food, healthcare, internet, and a coworking desk — so two places are easier to judge side by side.
Treat the result as a sketch. A neighborhood, a visa, taxes, and childcare can move the real number. The sample figures in the tool are placeholders until they are replaced with checked prices.
1. Start with one country
Pick the place you are considering and read the card. Switch Budget and Comfortable to see how the basket moves. The total includes one apartment, not both rents.
2. Add a place you already know
Put your current country, or somewhere you have priced yourself, first. The percentage on the total row compares every other country with that first one.
3. Notice what the basket leaves out
Flights, visas, income tax, childcare, and debt are not in the total. If you enter monthly income, the leftover is only what remains after the categories on the screen.
SWR recommendations
- Compare the city you would actually live in, not only the country average.
- A lower total is not automatically a better move if healthcare or internet is unreliable there.
- Share the link (for example ?countries=CO,MX,PT) when you are deciding with someone else.
- When you know the pay you are aiming for, open live roles on SWR and set that number next to the leftover shown here.
